Empowering global communities through helping eliminate barriers to secondary education

The Global Secondary Education Fund began because of a cry for help from eleven boys in Kisii, Kenya, whose families could not pay secondary school fees, and whose promised grants did not materialize. Since then, GSEF supporters and volunteers have seen that the stumbling block for so many children looking to exit poverty is secondary education.
While many countries have focused on free and compulsory primary education, secondary education is more expensive. Some countries pay part of the mandatory fees, but many pay none. Fees often exceed the average annual family income.
To date, GSEF has answered the call to help students in Kisii, Kenya; Chiredzi, Zimbabwe; Chipenge, Zimbabwe; and Jacmel, Haiti. Students are selected by local committees with instructions to find the poorest students—those without families or with families that cannot support them. We do not impose other criteria such as religion, gender, or areas of interest. Our goal is to ensure the poorest of the poor, no matter who they are, have the opportunity to escape poverty through education.
As GSEF grows, we aim to expand our network of partners and advocate for free and compulsory secondary education globally. Education is the surest path out of poverty—and we’ve already seen the results, as GSEF students graduate from college and begin professional careers.
To date, GSEF has supported over 120 students in Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Haiti. With the help of more than 100 donors, we are currently working in six secondary schools—two in Kisii, one in Chiredzi, two in Chipenge, and one in Jacmel.
OUR PARTNERS

Broken Wings Initiative (BWI) is an organization founded in 2022 in Chiredzi, a rural district in southeastern Zimbabwe, to support children affected by poverty through education. Tafadzwa Dzinoreva established BWI with the vision of giving vulnerable children a fair chance to learn, grow, and build a better future, regardless of their circumstances.
With the support of compassionate individuals and committed partners, BWI has enrolled children on full-term scholarships covering tuition, school uniforms, learning materials, and daily meals. These efforts not only help children stay in school but also build their confidence and open doors to brighter opportunities.
In 2024, BWI expanded its reach to Chipinge, a rural district in eastern Zimbabwe, with the support of the Global Secondary Education Fund. Through this partnership, BWI was able to serve more families with educational aid and help 21 students access secondary education, ensuring continuity in their learning journey beyond the primary level, restoring hope and creating meaningful, lasting impact.
